Background

The Birmingham Royal Ballet was formed from two independent ballet companies – Sadler's Wells Ballet (now known as The Royal Ballet) and Festival Ballet (now known as English National Ballet). These two companies had been performing together since 1945 under the banner Sadlers's Wells Theatre Ballet before coming together in 1946 to form what would ultimately become the Birmingham Royal Ballet. After being granted royal patronage by Queen Elizabeth II in 1956, they were officially recognised as the Royal Ballet of Birmingham in 1989.

Success Story

In addition to performing across Europe, North America and Australia, it regularly tours overseas countries that include Japan and South Korea for extended residencies. The company also continues to introduce new works into its repertoire alongside more traditional ballets such as Swan Lake and Giselle.
