History

The All America Football Conference (AAFC) was founded on July 8th, 1944 by Brooklyn Dodgers owner Dan Topping, Cleveland Browns owner Arthur B. McBride and then-Boston Yanks owner Ted Collins. At this time there were already two other rival leagues-the National Football League (NFL) and the American Football League (AFL). The AAFC was formed with eight teams located in various cities across the United States including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland and Miami. The league operated for four seasons beginning in 1946 with franchises such as the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers, Baltimore Colts and San Francisco 49ers taking part in it. They had their own championship game called the AAFC Championship Game which saw the best two teams from each division (American and National) competing for the coveted title each year until 1949 when it was disbanded after losing $8 million over a three-year span due to poor attendance numbers at many games across all four conferences within it..

Legacy

Despite only existing for four seasons before disbanding in 1949 due to financial losses, the All America Football Conference left behind an impressive legacy in professional football history which still resonates today. Not only did it feature some of the most talented players and coaches at its time but also helped lay down some foundations for what we know of modern day American Professional Football including having 10-team divisions playing against each other followed by playoffs before concluding with a winner being crowned at its annual championship game. The AAFC also had six players inducted into Professional Football’s Hall of Fame including Otto Graham (QB), Lou Groza (K), Tony Canadeo (RB), Frank Gatski (C), Bill Dudley (FB/HB) & Marion Motley (FB/LB). Two more prominent alumni include George Halas who moved his Chicago Bears franchise from NFL to join AAFC during 1947 after winning NFL championship back in 1944 season; Vic Fitzpatrick who coached multiple teams through all 4 seasons until its eventual disbandment.
