AMWA was founded in 1979 by a group of visionary and passionate Muslim women who wanted to make a difference in their communities. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide network of over 18 chapters with more than 5,000 members. In its almost four decades of service, AMWA has organized numerous public events to bring attention to issues concerning American Muslim women such as employment opportunities and domestic violence prevention.
