They also serve as watchstanders in control rooms during underway replenishments, anchoring/mooring evolutions and other related bridge activities. In addition to these duties aboard ship or shoreside locations, Machinist's Mates also perform quality assurance inspections on all material that must be purchased from outside vendors.
