What does WV CHIP mean in SUPPLIERS

The West Virginia Children's Health Insurance Program (WV CHIP) provides health coverage to eligible children, birth through age 19, whose family income is too high to qualify for Medicaid and too low to easily afford private health insurance. This program includes preventive care such as routine check-ups, immunizations, doctor visits, vision and hearing screenings, prescription drugs, hospital care, lab services and much more.

In order to be considered eligible for WV CHIP, a child and their family must meet certain income criteria. A family's gross monthly income must be no more than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Additionally, the child must be a state resident under the age of 19 who does not have access to health insurance from another source and does not currently receive Medicaid or WVCHIP coverage.

With WV CHIP coverage you can receive a wide range of medical benefits including preventive care visits, doctor visits, hospitalization services, vision and hearing screenings, prescriptions drugs and other medical supplies. Additionally you will have access to a dental plan with checkups cleanings x-rays sealants fillings fluoride treatments orthodontic treatment as well as access to behavioral health services.

All applicants will need documentation proving their identity and residency status in West Virginia as well as proof of income in order to complete an application form successfully.

Yes — depending on your family's income level you may be required to pay small premiums and/or co-pays when receiving care from participating providers. If applicable it is important that these are paid in full prior to any services being provided in order for them to be covered by your policy.

Yes - there is an Annaul Open Enrollment period during which time families who may not have applied previously can apply for coverage under the WVCHP program without having to meet any additional eligibility requirements outside of those already listed above in regards to personal information residency status etc..
